Rat detected landmines: awarded the gold medal

A giant African pouched rat has been awarded a gold medal by UK veterinary charity PDSA for his "lifesaving bravery and dedication to duty". Magawa has discovered 39 landmines and 28 items of unexploded ammunition in Cambodia since he was trained by Belgium-registered charity APOPO. Of the 30 animal recipients of the award, Magawa is the first rat.
